1.12.2014 Year 5/6 Football Invincibles

On a bitterly cold Monday night, the Year 5/6 Football Team competed in the first round of the Doel Cup. The teams were split into two competing groups with the top teams from each group going through to the March event.
Rydon's first match was a tough challenge against Bradley Barton, but a quick start saw Rydon emerge victorious 3-0. Next, Blackpool, who played well, were narrowly defeated by a single goal. A 4-0 win against Mortenhampstead saw Rydon playing some excellent football which was then followed up by a 2-0 win against Buckfastleigh. Canada Hill were next and a superb goal saw Rydon narrowly win  1-0. With Rydon undefeated a local derby was the final group game against St Michael's. A high-tempo match saw both sides go close, however, both sides had to settle for a 0-0 draw. Rydon finished top of their group and more impressively did not concede a single goal in the tournament! Great work team!

Year 5/6 Indoor Cricket Tournament 12 November 14

On Wednesday the 12th November, 8 girls from years 5 and 6 headed down to the Indoor Cricket Tournament in Paignton.  Having won the event last year the girls were keen to replicate the previous girls success. The first 3 matches were part of the group phase of the competition and in each match the girls grew in confidence beating Chudleigh, Abbotskerswell and South Brent. These fantastic results meant that we were through to a semi final match which we won convincingly. Nervously the girls faced Exminster in the final. Both teams were showing signs of nerves, Rydon had chosen to field first and were under pressure when the first 2 batsman from Exminster smashed the ball around the room scoring lots of runs between them. We held our own though and with some careful fielding and accurate bowling we were able to keep them increasing their total too much, ending the innings on 215 runs. Faced with our target the girls took educated risks and ran cleverly to achieve a victory with a winning innings score of 240......Champions again!!!
Well done girls, you showed some fantastic skills and also a very kind sporting attitude that was clear to see.

It has been a successful start to the new school year for Rydon as we have been awarded the Sainsbury's School Mark 'Silver Award'. This wouldn't of been possible without all the contributions from staff, pupils and parents. Well done Rydon!!

03 July 2014 Year 5/6 Girls Football Tournament

On the hottest day of the year the year 5/6 football team headed off to Coach Road, in Newton Abbot for the annual football tournament. We started off confidently and secured a victory with a 5-0 win over Kingskerswell. Our next fixture was against Bradley Barton and again with some fantastic team play we ended up winners with a 6-0 scoreline.  The following fixtures were a repeat of the first 2 matches, luckily for us these re matches resulted in very similar outcomes. We progressed to the semi finals with a clean scoresheet!
The semi final match was against a strong Highweek side. This was where our first challenge came. Highweek scored, we had a  big task ahead to remain in the competition. With true determination Hannah used her skills to forge forward and score the equaliser, from then on our confidence returned and we managed to go on to win the tie 4-1!
Decoy, our regular nemesis, were our final opponents. Playing to retain our title as tournament winners the girls gave it their all and worked so hard , as a team, and grabbed victory!!!!
Champions again!!! Mr Lee was unable to attend the tournament but can be safe in the knowledge that the girls did him proud and deserved their win!! Well done, Hannah, Sophie, Ella, Jasmine, Madi, Arabella, Abbie, Shawna and Mr Slinger( parent helper).

25.6.2014 Devon Schools Summer Games 2014

It was a slightly overcast morning which saw 10 pupils leave Dyrons at 8.00am on Wednesday. The Year 3/4 Tri-Golf Team had earned the right to represent Rydon at the Devon Schools Summer Games at Plymouth. The children enjoyed the opening ceremony before being transported to where the Tri-Golf was taking place. All members of the team represented Rydon proudly and came an admirable 7th, which actually meant they were 7th in the COUNTY! After the event, the children took part in a taster session of boules within the massive complex of The Life Centre. It was a brilliant, albeit tiring day with a few people resting their eyes on the journey back. Well done!
