Netball : Open Cup Champions

On Tuesday the 1st of April a Netball tournament took place at Bradley Barton after school. We were all really excited and ready to win! In our first match we played against Kingskerswell, we won that 4-0. In our second game we were exceptional and displayed some fantastic netball skills and finished 6-1 winners.  Our final game was about Bradley Barton and was tense....we all felt nervous. The result of this game was 4-0 to us, this meant that we had won the tournament. All of the schools were called together for the results . We were so happy to have won and collected a Cup and medals for each of us!
Well done to Madi, Sophie, Amber, Ella , Millie, Charlotte and Holly.

Year 6 Netball 31st March against Highweek

On Monday 31st March, the 2 Rydon teams went to play their last fixture of the season at Highweek Primary School. When we finally arrived ( after one car took a slight detour ) we started with the B team fixture.  After the first quarter we were 5 goals up, Bradley scored 4 and Amelia !.  In the next quarter we scored a further 2. in the end we finished with a score line of 15-0. Well done to everyone!

Now it was the "A" teams chance to shine. The first quarter saw us score 3 goals and our opponents scored 1. In the second quarter we scored 2 more goals, 1 by Charlotte Parker and 1 by Millie West. In the third quarter 3 more goals were scored by Ella and Madi. During the last 5 minutes we managed to get another 2 goals scored by Holly and Amber. The final score was 9-1.

I would like to congratulate everyone on their win and fingers crossed we will have news soon about our league placing.  We would like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Clark for coaching us and giving up her time to coach us. She is the best coach we could ask for.

Friday, 28 March 2014

On Thursday 26th March, the Year 4/5 Futsal finalists headed down to the sports 'Hub' at Paignton Community College. Our matches started with a tough fixture against Oldway Primary School. We started a little shakily and allowed our opponents to score 3 goals, but as the match progressed our confidence grew and we started to show our true skills with some excellent passing and defending. Unfortunately our form came a little too late and we suffered a 3-0 defeat.  The next team we faced were our local rivals Bradley Barton. This time we started off with a lot more confidence, we displayed some fantastic team work and our defence was unbreakable although the final score of this match was 0-0. Finally, we faced Curledge Street. This was a close game and having initially conceded 2 goals, a win was looking a little doubtful. However, Tate found his form to score a hat-trick and secured a 3-2 victory.  As the results came through, we were placed 3rd in our group, only missing out on 2nd place through goal difference. In the play off for 5th or 6th place overall, we were up against Exminster; the team we lost to in the earlier stages.  The match was very tense and whilst we led 1-0 for most of the game, we sadly conceded a goal in the closing seconds. This meant that we were faced with ...PENALTIES!

Without hesitation, Luke stood up as goalkeeper and made a fantastic save, then both Ryan and Harry scored. Unfortunately for Exminster, their next attempt fell wide, meaning that we were victorious!!!
We finished the competition in a very respectful 5th place. Well done boys!!

Sports Relief @ Rydon

On Friday the school had lots of sporting fun as they raised money for Sport Relief. All the children took part in some 'Super Circuits' in the hall as well as a throwing challenge on the playground. They also found out why they were raising money in some classed based sessions.

Children from KS1... ready for 'Super Circuits!'

These were the brilliant Sport Buddies who helped children at each exercise station. Thank you to Luke, Charlotte, Bradley, Sophie, Holly, Amelia, Scott, Harry and Harry.

Look at these children getting fit!

It was a brilliant day! Thank you to all the parents for the generous donations.

The Y5&6 Rydon football team played a league match against Canada Hill today. Unfortunately the A team lost, despite a strong second half performance, but the B team won convincingly. This means they should win the B team league. Well done to all the players!

17.3.14 Futsal Tournament

On Monday 17th March, a Year 4/5 Boys Futsal Tournament was held at South Dartmoor. Rydon were put in a group with Bradley Barton, Highweek, All Saints Marsh and The Grove.

The first match was a tough encounter against Bradley Barton. Some great passing, together with solid goalkeeping, saw Rydon victorious by one goal to nil. The second game was against Highweek who had also won their opening match. Great play from Tate as well as Ryan saw Rydon take an early lead which was extended when Harry was introduced to the game. Another clean sheet was kept for the defensive duo of Josh and Lucas, with Luke looking unbeatable in goal. Another great game against All Saints Marsh saw Tyler score a hat-trick with Rydon not conceding a goal. The end result of 12-0 didn’t truly reflect all the great play from both sides. The final game in the group was against The Grove. Rydon won 5-0 meaning that they hadn’t conceded a single goal in any of their group games!!

With Rydon securing top place in their group they progressed to the Final which was against another undefeated team, Exminster. It was a close game, which saw great passing from both teams. Exminster took an early lead with Harry equalising for Rydon straight away. Unfortunately, two quick goals put Exminster ahead and saw them win 3-1. However, Rydon have now progressed to the County Finals which will be held in the near future.
A big thank you to all the players who represented Rydon admirably, as well as to all parent supporters! Well done Boys!!
